11.13.2003 Tech Note: THROTTLE PROGRAM SELECTION -- for ALL GT7 ESC users:

The GT7 ESC offers a wide range of drive frequencies that racers can choose from to customize the speed control to their particular needs.  The available frequencies in the Factory-Installed Throttle Programs range from 2 kHz on the low end to 23 kHz on the high end. We have been working closely with various Team drivers as well as other users in the field and have found that using a lower drive frequency results in much more linear throttle and better motor performance

The reason for this is mainly due to the general design of the motors that have been released in the past year. Most of the new modified type motors are very inefficient and their response to the speed control is similar to that of stock motors. This is also the reason why we have had to go to the much larger Schottky Diode as well.

The majority of drivers that we work with feel that Throttle Program 5 is the best all-around program for normal track conditions.  For slick tracks, Throttle Program 4 is preferred, and for high traction tracks, use Throttle Program 6.  We also recommend Throttle Program 6 for most stock motor applications

When the One-Touch Setup is performed, the GT7 ESC will automatically erase all settings and revert to the default Throttle Program (for most GT7's, the default is Program 1, but for others it will be Program 5). So, remember to re-select your prefered Throttle Program after you do the One-Touch Setup on your GT7.

Recommended Throttle Program Summary:
  Best Over-All: Throttle Program 5
  Slick Tracks: Throttle Program 4
  High-Traction Tracks: Throttle Program 6
Most Stock Motors: Throttle Program 6

For Throttle Program Selection instructions, see "Step 6" in your GT7 ESC instruction manual. The manual is also available in the Download Section of our website.

Tech Note: DRAG BRAKE Activation and Adjustment in Throttle Program 7 Customizing Mode

  • Refer to STEP 8, number 7 in the GT7 instruction manual. If the ESC's SET Button is pressed and held for 3 seconds at any time in customizing mode, the Braking Type is switched:

BLUE Status LED = Constant Force Braking (standard brakes)

YELLOW & BLUE Status LED's = Drag Brakes
  • When the DRAG BRAKE feature is activated (indicated by the appropriatley illuminated LED's), wait for approximately 3 seconds and the YELLOW & BLUE Status LED's will start flashing to indicate the active DRAG BRAKE PROFILE (refer to the table in the instruction manual titled 'PROGRAM 7 CUSTOM PROFILE DATA' for the values of the custom Profiles).

  • Press and release the SET Button to advance to the next Profile. Each press will change to the next consecutive Profile.
  • When the desired DRAG BRAKE Profile is activated (indicated by the flashing LED's), wait for approximately 3 seconds and the YELLOW Status LED will go OFF and the BLUE Status LED will start flashing to indicate the active DRAG BRAKE PERCENTAGE.
T he Drag Brake Percentage uses the same 7 percentage values as the 'MINIMUM BRAKE ADJUSTMENT' and are listed in STEP 7 'MINIMUM BRAKE ADJUSTMENT'.
  • Press and release the SET Button to advance to the next Drag Brake Percentage setting. Each press will change to the next consecutive setting.
  • Refer to STEP 8, number 10 in the GT7 instruction manual for info on how to exit Throttle Program 7 Customizing Mode.
