Fast, Furious, and the R/Cer's Favorite

By now, most R/C car enthusiasts know that the Cyclone is tops in its field among programmable racing speed controls. Proving its worth once again by winning R/C Car Action's Reader's Choice Awards as NUMBER 1 SPEED CONTROL for an unprecedented fourth year in a row, you can be sure the Cyclone can meet any racer's high standards.

With three profiles preprogrammed into its memory, owning a Cyclone is like having three speed controls in one little case! The three profiles are of course user-selectable and are easily accessed through Novak's convenient 1-Touch button. Users may choose from the following three profiles: Modified, Drag Brake or Stock, or simply create their very own profile using Novak's optional Pit Wizard (#1035).

The beauty of the Cyclone is that it is truly a fully programmable speed control. While other speed controls are touted as being programmable, in reality, only a few of their operating parameters can be altered. The Cyclone allows users to modify any or all of its operating parameters. With Novak's optional programming device, the Pit Wizard, the following parameters can be customized:

  • Neutral
  • Full Throttle
  • Full Brake
  • Dead Band
  • Drive PWM Frequency*
  • Minimum Drive Value
  • Brake PWM Frequency*
  • Drag Brake Frequency*
  • Drag Brake Value
  • Drag Brake Toggle (on/off)

*Adjustable from 122 Hz to 23,400 Hz.

This full customization is definitely a contributing factor to the Cyclone's success--it's Novak's most popular ESC, as well as the world's most winning ESC. The ability to modify any or all operating parameters to meet personal specifications gives racers quite an advantage. Once the user has fine-tuned their customized profile, it can then be stored in the Cyclone's previously hidden fourth profile, ready to be accessed at any time. Pit Wizard users can store up to 10 profiles in its memory! The following chart describes the Cyclone's pre-programmed profiles:

The updated Cyclone can also be purchased in a combo pack with the Pit Wizard (#1036) at a reduced list price.

Modern technology has allowed us to make the following significant updates to our most popular racing ESC, the Cyclone:

Constant Force Braking: Typically, when an R/C car slows down, the brakes aren't as effective as when the car is traveling at a higher speed. Our new Constant Force Braking feature allows drivers to have effective braking power at all vehicle speeds. Definitely a plus for staying in control.

Ultra Smooth Throttle Response: Thanks to new circuitry, throttle response is even smoother than before.

Lower On-resistance: Most drivers know that the lower the On-resistance, the faster the speed control. Well...the Cyclone's On-resistance was reduced over 13% to 0.00058, which makes this already fast ESC even faster!

Brake Light Circuitry and Kit: Brake Light Circuitry and kit is no longer included.

Input Voltage: The input voltage has been changed from 4-10 cells to 4-7 cells.

New Label: This new generation of Cyclones has had a cosmetic makeover too--the case label is now purple & black (previous Cyclones had a black and yellow label with a blue Cyclone logo).

Novak Note: To ensure the highest efficiency and best protection for your Cyclone with the latest performance products available on the market, the external power capacitor that is included with the Cyclone MUST be used. Through continued testing, we have found that the combination of the external power capacitor and the built-in capacitor reduces motor wear and increases available voltage to the motor by 0.3V.
