The Atom —the smallest, most powerful element you'll put in your R/C car

The biggest news in the R/C world these days is actually quite small — nearly microscopic. Created in Novak's engineering laboratory, The Atom Programmable Speed Control is the world's smallest fully-programmable speed control. In fact, the Atom's footprint, 1.23" x 1.16" x 0.69", measures 25% smaller than the current IFMAR 2WD World Champion and Novak top seller, the Cyclone, and weighs a mere one ounce.

The Atom defined

By definition an atom is a small, but vital element which is essential to the makeup of any object. The same definition holds true for the Novak Atom speed control in relation to an R/C car. The Novak Atom, a tiny element that can be easily placed in the tightest space, plays an integral role. Its compact size packs a powerful punch equaled by no other ESC its size.

The Cyclone & Atom: It's all relative

Fans of Novak's Cyclone Programmable ESC will be impressed with the newest member of the Novak speed control family — the mighty little Atom. Directly related to Novak's Cyclone, the Atom has inherited all of the Cyclone's programmability. And, like the Cyclone, the Atom can be used with Novak's Pit Wizard (#1035) and ESC Profile Software (#1030) in order to take advantage of the many customizing and programming options.

True programmability

While other speed controls on the market are labeled as programmable, users are very limited in which, or how many, operating parameters may be accessed and adjusted. However, with Novak's Atom and Cyclone speed controls, drivers are given the unique opportunity to adjust 10 important operating parameters which result in over half-a-billion programming possibilities! Drivers no longer need to be restricted to manufacturers' settings — with the Atom or Cyclone, they can simply adjust and customize their own settings through the use of Novak's optional Pit Wizard or ESC Profile Software. With either device, the following 10 parameters can be adjusted: Neutral, Minimum Drive, Full Throttle, Brake Frequency, Full Brake, Drag Brake Frequency, Deadband, Drag Brake Value, Drive Frequency and Toggle options.

Built-in racing profiles

Like the Cyclone, the Atom comes with three, factory-programmed, racing profiles to choose from. Drivers can simply select any of the profiles by using the One-Touch button. Other specifications of the Atom include an on-resistance of 0.0013 ohms (1.3 milli ohms)and 256 discrete steps in both forward and brakes, which allow for a smooth trigger response. Also, with the use of a simple adjustment pot, the minimum brake can be set from 0-75%.

What's the difference?

After reading about the similarities between the Atom and the Cyclone, you're probably not sure what the differences are between them, except that the Atom is smaller. Besides the size and weight difference, there are only 4 differences between the Atom and Cyclone:

ATOM CYCLONE C2 EFFECT
3 Drive Transistors 6 Drive Transistors Atom Forward Current: 240 amps;
Cyclone Forward Current: 480 amps
1 Brake Transistor 2 Brake Transistors Atom Braking Current: 80 amps;
Cyclone Braking Current: 160 amps
No internal Schottky Diode Has internal Schottky diode External Schottky diode is mandatory in Atom and recommended in Cyclone
Input Voltage 4-6 cells Input Voltage 4-7 cells
On-Resistance 0.00130 ohms On-Resistance 0.00049 ohms

Atom usage tips

There's no doubt about it. Novak is an industry leader in designing and developing superior speed controls. Like its predecessors, the Atom is backed with Novak's reputation for reliable and durable products. This tough little speed control has gone through rigorous tests at Novak and is suitable for all racing applications.*

If you want to experience a powerful burst of energy, use the Atom — the smallest, most powerful element you'll put in your R/C car! The Atom is scheduled to be released in early March, 1998. Be sure to place your order today with your hobby store dealer, and be the first on the racetrack with an Atom!
