Programmability in a Brushless/Brush ESC
Novak’s new Super Sport Plus Programmable ESC combines the advantage of working with brushless motors, including Novak’s SS4300 and SS5800 brushless motors, as well as brushed motors down to 12-turns. Best of all, the sensor-based ESC is also programmable via convenient on-board programming. With one product, you get a programmable speed control that is compatible with both brushless and brushed motors — a definite PLUS!
The Super Sport Plus is equipped with six throttle profiles (five Brushless Profiles and one Brushed Profile), which cover track conditions and r/c applications for nearly every driver. Of the six profiles, five are customizable (the fifth brushless profile, the marine mode, has fixed parameters). Something Novak Super Sport brushless motor system users have asked for, and that the Super Sport Plus delivers, is the ability to fine-tune the “feel” of it. For many, running a brushless motor setup has quite a different feel that may be difficult to get used to, particularly its off-throttle coasting. The Super Sport Plus ESC gives users the ability to fine-tune their setup so it “feels” more like what they are used to running: a brushed-motor setup. Drivers running brushless motor setups get the best of both worlds: the advantage of longer run-times and little maintenance from a brushless motor system, but with the familiar feel of a brushed motor setup that they know so well. For those running brushed systems, the Super Sport Plus ESC has a racing profile designed especially for them, which allows them to use down to a 12-turn motor. All this is accomplished through the Super Sport Plus’s six throttle profiles.
The Super Sport Plus has four adjustable parameters within each of its five customizable profiles: Minimum Brake, Drag Brakes, Deadband, and Minimum Drive. Each of these profiles can be customized and saved for future use, or can easily be returned to the default factory settings. Customizing and saving the parameters is easily accomplished via the speed control’s convenient on-board programming: the One-Touch button and four different colored LEDS.
The Super Sport Plus ESC has all the features expected from a Novak-designed ESC. Six user-selectable throttle profiles ensure that drivers of all skill levels will find a setting suitable for just about any application. The Super Sport Plus ESC includes all of Novak’s best features including Locked Rotor Detection Circuitry, which prevents brushless motor, battery, and ESC damage; Variable Throttle Step Technology, which gives the ESC its incredibly smooth performance; and Smart Braking II Circuitry, which gives drivers a full range of braking power without going into reverse until shifted. This allows smoother take-offs in reverse, and less wear on the drive train. Other included features are: One-Touch Set-Up, Radio Priority Circuitry, Thermal Protection, and Polar Drive Technology.
