What They Said
The reviews are out on the HV High-Voltage System. Check newsstands for the April 2005 issues of the following R/C magazines for the complete article.

R/C Car Magazine:
April 2005 issue

"Compared to a T-Maxx™, our HV-Maxx™-equipped E-Maxx™ was nearly as fast (ours topped out at just under 39 mph with stock gearing), but the brushless E-Maxx™ will easily out-accelerate its nitro-powered counterpart.... This is incredible power to say the least."

Xtreme R/C Cars Magazine:
April 2005 issue

"After a long wait, Novak's brushless power for monster trucks has finally arrived, and is it worth it? You bet! I've never had as much fun driving an electric truck, and for those who want the speed and power of nitro without any of the engine-tuning hassle, this is exactly what the doctor ordered." ... If you have an electric monster truck and a few hundred bucks to spend, do yourself a favor and pick up an HV-Maxx™ today."

RC Driver Magazine:
April 2005 issue

"Off the line, this motor packs some punch. it was evident at full throttle, even without a speed test, that the velocity at which the G-Maxx propelled itself over the pavement was well beyond that of the stock motors. Then...I realized I had not shifted into second gear yet. Hold on to your socks! Click! Gone! I was sold right then and there on brushless technology and the HV-Maxx™." and "You'll find it a worthwhile investment."

A New Generation HV Brushless System

Geared for high-voltage applications such as the Traxxas® E-Maxx™, the HV High-Voltage system includes the new-generation HV6.5 High-Voltage Brushless Motor, and one speed control that work seamlessly together to provide the ideal system for high-voltage applications. This dynamic system allows significantly higher speeds and longer run-times than traditional dual brushed motor systems with virtually no maintenance! When driving high-voltage applications such as a Traxxas® E-Maxx™, Kyosho® Twin Force™, or Tamiya’s® TXT™ Trucks, you can expect a significant speed gain and still maintain, if not improve, the runtime over stock motors. (The HV High-Voltage System is capable of between 32-38 MPH in a basic E-Maxx™ setup with improved drivetrain parts. Runtimes and speed are affected by the battery packs used.)

For additional convenience, Novak is including a Power-Boost ESC Fan and mounting bracket (#5646) for those wanting extra cooling for their ESC. Likewise, the HV6.5 motor comes with a factory-installed heat sink for additional cooling of the motor. Another great amenity that is included is a dust cover to cover the motor opening that is left exposed since 1 HV6.5 motor efficiently replaces 2 brushed motors.

Using sensor-based technology, the HV6.5 motor provides awesome starting torque, low-speed driveability, and low cogging for smooth acceleration and smooth coasting. Direct-solder wiring tabs make wire replacement convenient and easy. Locked Rotor and Thermal protection allows pack after pack to be run without fear of damaging the motor, battery, or speed control.

Did we mention that one HV6.5 brushless motor replaces the two brushed motors that are currently required to run the Traxxas® E-Maxx™? It's true. The beauty of using brushless technology is that it fuses power and efficiency to create one dynamic motor, which is a definite advantage when it comes to saving space on a chassis, or laboriously maintaining multiple motors. This efficient motor packs a powerful punch, providing users with ample power and torque. While it was designed with the Traxxas® E-Maxx™ in mind, it will work for most applications requiring an over-abundance of power at a higher input voltage.

Completing the High-Voltage Brushless Motor System is the HV ESC, which can accommodate 6-14 cells (7.2-16.8 volts) and can be wired for dual or single battery packs. This high-power, reversible brushless speed control uses the same screw pattern as the Traxxas® E-Maxx™, making it convenient to install. It also comes factory-wired to the HV4400 brushless motor. The battery power wires are replaceable via external direct-solder wiring tabs. The HV ESC features forward, reverse, and brake operation for drivers of all skill levels and applications. It also includes many of Novak's useful features such as One-Touch programming, and One-Touch Set-Up. The ESC features a heavy-duty 6Volt/3Amp BEC to prevent the need for a receiver battery pack, and smooth and powerful braking to slow heavy vehicles. For added cooling and efficiency, we have included the optional Power Boost Cooling Fan and mounting bracket.

The HV ESC features 3 profiles, and 256 discrete steps to deliver super smooth throttle operation. The three throttle programs give drivers additional flexibility.
  • Program #1 is the default setting that allows forward, brake, and reverse functions, and includes Novak's Smart Braking II feature
  • Program #2 contains the Reverse Disable feature that turns it into a forward-only ESC, a must for racing
  • Program #3 is for marine use*. This mode allows forward, as well as 25% reverse and brakes
