These procedures are valid for the following Novak speed controls: Explorer, HPc, 610-HRV, M5, M1c, M1, MXc, 610-RV, & 828-HV.

A INSTALL SPEED CONTROLSetup Photo

Use double-sided tape to mount speed control in the model where the power wires are neatly routed away from the receiver and antenna.

B CONNECT SPEED CONTROL TO RECEIVER

Plug the speed control's input signal harness into the throttle channel of the receiver. Make sure the proper plug plastic is installed on signal harness. Hot-Link to How To...Change Input Plug Plastic for changing plug.

C CONNECT SPEED CONTROL TO BATTERY

Refer to speed control instructions for number of cells allowed in battery pack.

D TURN ON TRANSMITTER POWER

Adjust Transmitter according to the following table.

TRANSMITTER ADJUSTMENT REVERSIBLE ESC SETTINGS FORWARD-ONLY ESC SETTINGS
High ATV or EPA maximum maximum
Low ATV, EPA, or ATL maximum maximum
Exponential zero or middle zero or middle
Throttle Channel Trim middle middle
Throttle Ch. Rev. Switch Refer to Transmitter Chart* Refer to Transmitter Chart*
Electr. Trigger Throw Adj. 50% Thr. & 50% Br. (5:5) 70% Thr. & 30% Br. (7:3)
Mech. Trigger Throw Adj. 1/2 Thr. & 1/2 Br. 2/3 Thr. & 1/3 Br.

*Do not change switch position after ESC Set-Up

E TURN ON SPEED CONTROLPull Trigger Photo

Slide ON/OFF switch to ON position.

F ADJUST THE NEUTRAL POT ON SPEED CONTROL

With transmitter throttle in neutral position, rotate the NEUTRAL pot on the speed control until status LED turns solid red.

G PULL TRIGGER (or stick) TO FULL-THROTTLE POSITION & ADJUST HIGH SPEED POT ON SPEED CONTROL

Rotate the HIGH SPEED pot on the speed control until status LED turns solid green.

Note: If the HIGH SPEED pot is adjusted too high, you will reach full speed before the transmitter is at full throttle.

H PUSH TRIGGER (or stick) TO FULL-BRAKE/REVERSE POSITION & ADJUST BRAKES/REVERSE AT TRANSMITTERPush Trigger Photo

Rotate the LOW ATV, EPA, or ATL adjustment on the transmitter until status LED begins to turn green. After speed control adjustment has been completed, this setting can be reduced if you feel there are too much brakes.

I CONNECT SPEED CONTROL TO MOTOR & CHECK OPERATION

Tip: Twisting the BLUE & YELLOW (or RED) motor wires one or two times around each other as they go to the motor can help reduce any radio noise that may be emitted from the power wires. This will also work on the battery wires and can help increase the range of your radio system.

Note: If motor runs when the brakes are applied and stops when the throttle is applied, change the THROTTLE CHANNEL REVERSING SWITCH position and repeat the entire set-up procedure.

J OPTIONAL SPEED CONTROL ADJUSTMENTS

COAST BRAKES——Set at Transmitter (Forward-Only ESCs)

Adjust the THROTTLE CHANNEL TRIM on the transmitter to get more or less coast brake. This is accomplished by slightly shifting the neutral position. After adjustment, be sure that the status LED is still green at Full-Throttle.

REVERSE TIME DELAY (610-HRV only)

Adjust the REV DELAY pot on the speed control to set the desired amount of braking time before going into reverse. Fully clockwise is about three seconds, and counter-clockwise is zero seconds. Note: Zero reverse delay can cause premature wear on the transmission and driveline.
